BALTIMORE (AP)—Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis(notes) has been placed on the inactive list for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a toe injury, ending his streak of 57 consecutive starts. Lewis hasn’t missed a game since 2007. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Dannell Ellerbe(notes). The Bengals will be without rookie wide receiver A.J. Green(notes), who was inactive after hyperextending his right knee last weekend making a touchdown catch against Pittsburgh. Andre Caldwell(notes) is expected to start in his place. Cincinnati’s inactives included safety Robert Sands(notes), linebacker Dontay Moch(notes), tackle Anthony Collins(notes) and tight end Donald Lee(notes). Baltimore placed kick returner David Reed(notes) on the inactive list. He lost two fumbles last week in a 22-17 loss to Seattle. Linebacker Sergio Kindle(notes) was also on the list.

Rex Ryan’s in-game curse at fan draws NFL’s interest

Rex Ryan’s in-game curse at fan draws NFL’s interest
The Jets were down 13-9 at halftime of their loss to the Patriots, and Rex Ryan had just witnessed his quarterback calling a timeout that Ryan called “the stupidest thing in football history.” As the Jets walked off the field for halftime on Sunday night, a Patriots fan caught Ryan’s attention by yelling, “Hey Rex! Belichick is better than you.” What do you think the coach did then? A. Ignore the fan. B. Smile, and sweetly say, “You old devil! Why would you say such a silly thing?” C. Go get a snack. D. Tell the fan to “Go [expletive] yourself.” If you answered D, you either know Ryan really well or have already seen the video making the rounds on the Internet. He apologized when talking to reporters on Monday, saying that he was emotional and made a mistake. “It was right after halftime, obviously made the mistake with the timeout, gave up the touchdown. I was just full of emotion and I just popped off. I know I represent the National Football League and I represent the Jets and I know it was a mistake. I apologize for it,” Ryan said. “I’m about as big of a competitor as there is. At that time I was in no mood to hear anything, but I also understand I have to handle that better. I make mistakes all the time, I’m not perfect by any stretch. I try to get better. Sometimes I let my emotions get the best of me.” Nonetheless, the NFL is reportedly looking into this video and Ryan’s remarks. Though Ryan using salty language is no surprise to anyone who watched him on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” the NFL’s investigation may end up costing Ryan a small fortune. He was fined $50,000 for flipping the middle finger to a fan at a Strikeforce MMA event. Sunday’s incident was his second offense and he was representing the NFL at the time. Those factors could add up to one hefty fine.

ATP Stockholm: Kevin Anderson vs. Tommy Haas

ATP Stockholm: Kevin Anderson vs. Tommy Haas
Written by Diana on 19 October 2011. Fifth seed Kevin Anderson takes on former world number two Tommy Haas in the second round of the Stockholm Open. Haas returned to the tour after a long injury layoff at the French Open earlier this year but the German has struggled to make an impact as his current ranking of 290 shows and he’s still relying on wildcards for virtually every event he wants to enter and not every tour level tournament is that accomodating. This is his first event since the US Open where he looked more like his old self, battling to the third round before falling to Juan Monaco. He looked fairly sharp on Monday to take out Somdev Devvarman 7-6(4), 6-4 and could provide Anderson with quite a test. The fifth seed is enjoying a career best season and currently lies at 31 in the rankings. He had a very tricky opener against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez but battled through 7-6(1), 7-6(4), although things would have been easier had he converted more than three of his thirteen break point chances. Expect Anderson’s huge serving to hold sway in this one. He smashed 13 aces past Garcia-Lopez and will probably get the job done in the tiebreaks again.
